Western Maryland Electrical Industry Labor Management Cooperation Committee Contributes Donation

Cumberland, MD- 3/6/2023The Western Maryland Electrical Industry Labor Management Cooperation Committee, which includes IBEW Local Union 307 and the signatory electrical contractors of the Western Maryland Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association, made a generous donation to the Allegany County K9 Fund!

This organization chooses several businesses or establishments to support throughout the year. This year they have included the Allegany County K9 Retirement Fund to help support our local K9 officers.

Donations made through the Allegany County K9 Fund’s website, go toward the care of Police K9s upon retirement. Due to the conditions in which these dogs work, many come out of service with physical and mental scarring that often require retraining or long-term veterinary care.

Your support and contributions help our retired K9s receive top-level veterinary care, secure a forever home with a loving family, provide support and comfort to their handler, and allow for a better quality of life and care in retirement. The Allegany County K9 Fund represents the Cumberland Police Department, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, and Frostburg Police Department. You can donate at www.alleganycountyk9fund.com, on Facebook @Allegany County K9 Fund, or by calling 301-759-6655.

Please make all donations payable to The Allegany County K9 Fund or Lt. Eric Bonner, Administrative Lieutenant.

Band Bash Benefit Brings Big Donations

Cumberland, MD- 10/30/2022Thanks to the generous spirit (and astounding talent) of Mountain Maryland Search and Rescue, $1,000 in donations were given to Allegany County K9 Fund following the October band bash, Boos and Brews!

The second annual Boos and Brews Band Benefit (formally Boos in the Ballroom) was held the weekend of October 21st and 22nd. Proceeds from the event also benefited A.B.A.T.E of Western MD and Mountain Maryland Search and Rescue.

“Two days, 15 bands, three great causes supported. We’re grateful to everyone involved in getting this event together and to those who came out to support our local bands while also giving to our community,” says Police Chief Chuck Ternent.

Donations raised through this and other events, as well as donations made through the Allegany County K9 Fund’s website, go toward the care of Police K9s upon retirement. Due to the conditions in which these dogs work, many come out of service with physical and mental scarring that often requires retraining or long-term veterinary care. The K9 Fund’s mission is to provide this care for their retired dogs.

Over $850 Raised for K9 Fund Thanks to Community Support

Cumberland, MD- 10/16/2022– The results are in! A Paint with Pups event at Mr. Toad’s Pottery in Lavale September 28th raised over $850 for the Allegany County K9 Fund!

The event was well attended, both by our community supporters and our two-legged and 4-legged officers. While painters tended to their crafts, K9 Officers VooDoo, Leon and newly certified Narcotics Detection, Article Searching, and Tracking K9, Paco (and their handlers) visited tables for meet & greets.

“This is a great turnout,” said Lieutenant Eric Bonner. “Events like this really boost morale for the dogs and handlers, too. Interacting with the public in a scenario that isn’t as high-stakes as our job often requires is very rewarding!”

The Allegany County K9 Unit works to help retired K9 dogs here in Allegany County. Law enforcement dogs spend a lot of time training and working with their handlers and retire around 10 year in service, but when they retire they can have increased veterinary care causing extra expense to their handlers. The donation from this event will help give our local K9 heroes a chance at a long, fulfilling retirement, surrounded with the love and care they deserve.

“Taking care of our K9s after their retirement, it’s a no-brainer. These dogs work right beside us, take risks every day just like we do; they are our partners and we owe it to them to find a soft place to land once their time on the force is over,” said Chief Chuck Ternent.

A special thanks to Little Dog Social Media and Mr. Toad’s Pottery for arranging and hosting this event. We also want to express our sincere appreciation to our community for their continued support of our law enforcement personnel.
